HOD is short for Hybrid Oriented Development. It can be regarded as a Dutch style TOD, with the bicycle as the main feeder for transit. During his research at Technical University Delft, Erik described HOD as an integrated concept for urban planning. The success of multimodal transport at different locations depends on infrastructural factors such as quality of bicycle routes and frequency of train traffic, but also spatial factors such as density and mix of functions. To achieve the best conditions for sustainable transport and a liveable environment, the right mix of measures and physical interventions must be converted into a smart strategy.
